  • Collaborative Working Pays Off

    Thu 17 Nov 2022

Severn Bridges MAT’s executive leadership team enjoyed an informative and enlightening visit to St Mark’s C of E Primary School in Pensnett today, where they witnessed first-hand how the golden thread of Pupil Premium provision is successfully woven throughout the school.

Headteacher Keith Rondeau welcomed our CEO and headteachers and gave them a presentation and tour around the school to show how the children attracting pupil premium benefit from an approach and strategy that is underpinned by the school’s strong vision and values.

The team came away with a lot of though provoking ideas, and look forward to welcoming the St Mark's for a return visit.

  • Children Enjoy Literacy Festival

    Fri 13 May 2022

Children from our three schools took part in Prestfelde School’s Excellence in English festival today.

The children really enjoyed writing essays and working with pupils from Prestfelde when they took part in writing workshops held by the school.

We were really proud to see Drummond from Greenfields Primary School reaching second place and receiving his award from children’s author Ben Davis.

Ben, who wrote ‘What’s that in Dog Years?’ and ‘The Soup Movement’ stayed on after the special presentation assembly to sign copies of his books and answer questions about creative writing from the children.

Sally Dale, from Prestfelde’s English department commented: “We had some absolutely sensational entries and judging them was extremely difficult. We were looking for highly accurate writing, detail, research, the correct tone and structure and a real sense of passion for their topic. We received a range of entries which included food waste, whales, musical theatre, the influence of young people, cockatiels, the truth, Bulgaria and coral reefs to name just a few!”

It was a fantastic event. The children from Severn Bridges thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and we are looking forward to taking part next year.

  • Schools Celebrate MAT Bake Off

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

Severn Bridges Multi-Academy Trust held its very first Bake Off today in a three-school wide cookery competition.

Severn Bridges MAT launched the baking contest to all children across the three schools earlier this month. The first round of the contest invited the budding bakers to create celebration cupcakes at home, and bring them into school to be judged. The colourful creations were then sold off in a cake sale to raise money for the Trust’s chosen charity, Empathy for Special Children.

Judges had the near impossible task of selecting a winner from each school to compete in the Bake Off final, which was held today at Mount Pleasant Primary School. The finalists, Tillie, (Year 6) from Greenfields Primary School, Bonnie (Year 5) from Mount Pleasant Primary School and Finnley (Year 6) from Radbrook Primary School, were tasked with baking a Victoria Sponge Cake, independently and from scratch, under the watchful eye of the competition judges.

Congratulations to Mount Pleasant’s Bonnie who scooped the top prize and won a Nadiya's Bake Me a Story cookery book and a £15.00 voucher to spend at Crystals Cupcakes in Shrewsbury.

CEO Andrew Morris welcomed the MAT-wide event: “We’ve all faced a challenging time, with many of the inter-school events and activities curtailed due to Covid restrictions, so it was wonderful to see the children together, competing against each other, representing their three schools and having fun.”

  • Second Successful visit from South Gloucestershire Deputy Headteachers

    Thu 11 Nov 2021

Following the successful visit by South Gloucestershire Learning Alliance Headteachers in October, the Deputy Headteachers have just completed a visit on 4th & 5th November.

Their aim was to begin to build a character and values award based on Severn Bridges MAT`s Darwin Values Award and Darwin Growth Curriculum.

The Deputy Heads shared presentations on the Darwin Values Award and Curriculum, as well as meeting children who gave them a real insight into how the award works for them. Children shared their folders and achievements that culminated in their Year 6 Graduation when they would gain a gold, silver or bronze award.

Sam Glover from Coniston Primary developed the knowledge base for the group further with his presentation on mapping links in the Curriculum. The Deputies used the input to create touchpoints in the award where children can achieve award criteria based on the work they are undertaking in class.

The Deputy Heads worked on building the strands of their `Brunel Award`, working alongside the Severn Bridges MAT Deputy Headteacher team. The Deputies will take the initial work done back to Gloucester to expand the Award and create their values systems alongside it in their own schools.

We are really proud of the partnership work we undertake and it has been fascinating and exciting to develop practice working closely with The Bridge Hub. Working together with different schools keeps our curriculum and the work we do with children fresh, up to date and innovative.

The value of the work we do on the Darwin Growth Curriculum was well summarised in Mount Pleasant’s October 2021 inspection:

The `Darwin Values’ feed through the school and the curriculum. Pupils know and understand the values, with one pupil commenting, ‘Talking about the values gives us a safe space to talk about how we feel.’

  • MAT Welcomes South Gloucestershire Learning Alliance

    Fri 08 Oct 2021

Severn Bridges Multi-Academy Trust recently welcomed staff from the South Gloucestershire Learning Alliance.

Headteachers from schools in the Bridge Hub, along with their School Improvement Advisor, visited the MAT over two days to learn more about our Trust’s approach to professional Growth Appraisal Policy, Subject 360 reviews, Darwin Growth Curriculum and our character award, the Darwin Values Award.

There was an opportunity to visit each school, where key staff demonstrated their approach to continuous professional development, shared their experience of how this has worked in each of their schools and gave tours of their learning environments. Our visitors were also able to listen to some of the children's views on their character award.

The visit also facilitated the opportunity for professional discussions and reciprocal practice sharing between the schools.

Severn Bridges MAT looks forward to welcoming back the Bridge Hub Deputy Heads in November,  who will work alongside our Deputy and Assistant Heads to create a character award for The Bridge hub.

CEO Andrew Morris was pleased to welcome the visitors and showcase some of the MAT’s work: “As an outward facing organisation it has been both thought provoking and exciting to discuss our practice and learn from other schools across the country. It reflects our MAT’s desire to be a collaborative and an adult learning community. We thrive on working with partners in other Trusts, mainstream and Independent  schools both locally and further afield.”
