Children from our three schools took part in Prestfelde School’s Excellence in English festival today.
The children really enjoyed writing essays and working with pupils from Prestfelde when they took part in writing workshops held by the school.
We were really proud to see Drummond from Greenfields Primary School reaching second place and receiving his award from children’s author Ben Davis.
Ben, who wrote ‘What’s that in Dog Years?’ and ‘The Soup Movement’ stayed on after the special presentation assembly to sign copies of his books and answer questions about creative writing from the children.
Sally Dale, from Prestfelde’s English department commented: “We had some absolutely sensational entries and judging them was extremely difficult. We were looking for highly accurate writing, detail, research, the correct tone and structure and a real sense of passion for their topic. We received a range of entries which included food waste, whales, musical theatre, the influence of young people, cockatiels, the truth, Bulgaria and coral reefs to name just a few!”
It was a fantastic event. The children from Severn Bridges thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and we are looking forward to taking part next year.
